On 16 April 2026, the partners of the CRMsDataSpace project gathered in Avilés (Spain) for their second partners meeting, marking an important step in the development of a Common European Data Space on Critical Raw Materials.

The meeting brought together the consortium to review progress and align on the next phase of work, with a strong focus on the technical development of the data space and its practical applications.

Throughout the day, partners discussed the progress made in structuring and harmonising data related to closed extractive coal waste facilities, as well as the challenges associated with ensuring data quality, comparability and interoperability across different sources and countries.

A key highlight of the meeting was the demonstration of the project’s digital solutions, including the web-based platform and a mobile application designed to support the collection of georeferenced data in the field. These tools aim to facilitate access to information and support more efficient use of data by different stakeholders.

The meeting also addressed ongoing developments in the use of artificial intelligence to support data analysis, reporting and classification of resources, contributing to more streamlined and accessible use of technical information.

In parallel, partners reviewed progress in data acquisition activities, including the collection and analysis of information from selected sites, as well as ongoing work to better understand the recovery potential of critical raw materials from closed extractive facilities.

Beyond technical discussions, the meeting provided an opportunity to reinforce coordination across the consortium and to ensure alignment on upcoming milestones and communication activities.

CRMsDataSpace continues to contribute to the development of reliable and interoperable data infrastructures in Europe, supporting the objectives of the European Green Deal and the Critical Raw Materials Act, particularly in relation to improving knowledge and access to data on critical raw materials.
